Profile Description

The Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services (CAAPS) Aboriginal Corporation is the largest not-for-profit family-focused residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation centre in Northern Australia. In addition to rehabilitation we provide community members support for appropriate referrals and work to prevent homelessness.

Our clients come from communities across the Northern Territory, and our homelessness service worker supports the communities of Darwin and Palmerston.

Our Clients

Our clients and their families come from all regions of the Northern Territory with some coming from other states in the Top End. Currently around 25% come from the Darwin region, slightly fewer from the Katherine region and about 25% from Eastern and Western Arnhem Land combined. The remainder are from the Daly region, the Tiwi Islands and a few from the Barkly region and Central Australia.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision It is the vision of CAAPS to provide excellence in service delivery in the area of substance misuse. Mission CAAPS is a family focussed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation whose mission is to provide evidence based assistance to overcome problems caused by substance misuse, while raising public awareness and advocating for client and community need. CAAPS envisages an organisation with support facilities based in communities. It is imperative that we remain sensitive and aware of the needs of our partners and clients. It is also essential that we communicate these needs to the public and that we contribute to government policy.
